Rushey Green Time Bank

In South East London, the Rushey Green time bank is based in the local GP's practice. Members, like Hyacinth earn credits keeping an eye on her elderly neighbour, Mrs Shepperson. Hyacinth spends her credits getting small repairs done around her home, "I've got a lot of garden furniture, but the shed was leaky. So I used the time I get chatting to the old lady to get the shed repaired."

Mary, another member uses the time bank to get a push to the shop in her wheelchair; she earns her credits baking cakes for people coming out of hospital. The time bank even has its resident poet, Lunette, who writes poems to order (paid for in time of course). On the subject of time banking, Lunette is most eloquent - "We'll share all our numerous hidden skills, sixty minutes can improve our lives, an hour can break the barriers down, So let's give an hour and bank an hour."
