| Case Study |
My Name is Cathy Ferrie, I have lived in Hexagon property for 8 years now. I am 37 years old and have suffered with mental health problems for 20 years.
I've been on many courses throughout the 20 years arranged by a number of different organisations but none have come close to the benefits I have had from the DIY course and the Time Bank.
Doing the DIY skills course helped me to meet new people that were not involved in mental health services.
I learnt lots of new skills whilst on the DIY course and it motivated me to join the Time Bank. I have also learnt new things with the Time Bank.
Since being with the Time Bank it has opened up a new social life for me and the benefits of helping someone else - well there is no better reward.
After completing the DIY course I was then invited to receive my certificate from Tom McCormack, Chief Executive of Hexagon Housing Association. Some of my family attended and were so impressed by the lovely people and the way that no-one patronised me. Also that I was not treated differently because of my mental health problems.
The Time Bank has offered me new places to go and people to meet - each time is a new adventure. |
